Mad Max: Cat Interlude #3

Me: Cat, where's the gift I made for my sister?
Mad Max: *opens one eye* Hmmm?
Me: I said, where's the gift I made for my sister?
Mad Max: *closes eye* I don't know what you're talking about.
Me: I left it right here on the counter next to my purse and I was only gone for a minute or two. Now, what did you do with it?
Mad Max: *yawns*
Me: You gave it to the dog, didn't you?
Mad Max: Why would I do that?
Me: Because you like her. You're always giving her things.
Mad Max: Hey, she's okay...for a dog.
Me: Don't give me that. You're in love with that dog. You follow her around. You rub noses with her. You sleep with her, for heaven's sake!
Mad Max: Like I said, she's okay...for a dog.
Me: Uh huh. We'll see about that. I'm going to go look in the dog crate.
*momentary silence*
Me: Guess what I found?
Mad Max: Do tell.
Me: My sister's present.
Mad Max: Was it in the dog's crate?
Me: No...it was in the dog's mouth.
Mad Max: Huh.
Me: I'll 'huh' you. Look at this thing! What am I supposed to tell my sister?
Mad Max: *yawns again* How about, 'It's the thought that counts?'
Me: *sigh* Cat, you give me a headache.
Mad Max: Human, it's what I live for.
